2017 Annual Meeting Keynote Address

mmrfv4eqThe Board of Directors of the MAS is pleased and proud to announce that the 2017 Annual Meeting will feature Dr. P. Andrew Karplus as its “Keynote Address” speaker for this year’s meeting.  The address, titled, “Teaching, Teamwork, and Aha! Moments” will be at 8:00 pm, immediately following the MAS Annual Banquet in the Copper Lounge of the Montana Tech Student Union Building. Dr. Karplus, better known as Andy, is a Distinguished Professor and Department Head of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Oregon State University. He loves teaching and working with students. Guided by the view that “we can better understand what we can see.” His research focuses on determining the three-dimensional structures of proteins and puzzling out their functions. Dr. Karplus received his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis, a Ph.D. from the University of Washington, and was an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow in Freiburg, Germany. He started his faculty career at Cornell before moving to Oregon State.   Examples from his research include the “floodgate” hypothesis for how certain enzymes control cell signaling and influence health and disease.  You can read more about Dr. Karplus at http://oregonstate.edu/dept/biochem/faculty/karplus.html
